The purpose of MSC’s Individual Small Arms Training and Qualification Course is to provide CIVMARs, CONMARs, and shipboard contract security personnel with the knowledge, skills and abilities to safely, responsibly and effectively employ small arms in individual and unit self-defense of Department of Defense assets to the standards set by the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and the Commander, Military Sealift Command.
Proper mindset and the use of "deadly force" are examined and discussed in depth. Over the course of four days, attendees qualify with live fire on three weapons: Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun. Additionally, the training requires the mariner to demonstrate their competence in the proper care of the weapon(s), field stripping of each weapon(s) and requires a practical demonstration of their marksmanship.
Pre-requisites-Prospective students must never have been convicted of a felony or any crime of domestic violence. Each student will be required to sign and attest that the above is true.
Individuals who have been small arms qualified are required to complete annual re-qualification.
