IMSN and MACOSNAR launch new CBT courses to meet Jan 2014 deadline for STCW maritime security training
International Maritime Security Network, LLC (IMSN) and Macosnar Training Institute Corp (MTI) are now offering 2 new online, computer based training (CBT) courses that satisfy the STCW security training requirements for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties and Security Awareness for All Others. Mariners around the world can now take this course, start to finish, in the comfort of their own home and, after successful completion, print their certificate from their own computer.
According to IMO Circular STCW.7/Circ.17 (Dated 24 May 2011), Security training requirements found in Regulation VI/6 of the 2010 Manila Amendments must be completed by January 2014 for certification. “Seafarers around the world have a relatively short time-frame to meet the new STCW training requirements that involve security training”, stated Captain Tim Nease (Ret.), IMSN’s CEO. “We are honored to have worked together with MTI in the development of these CBT courses and are hopeful they will offer shipping companies and mariners a practical and affordable way to meet this daunting training task”.
The Liberian Registry (LISCR) recently certified IMSN’s Seafarers with Designated Security Duties CBT course. “We are pleased to present IMSN with certification for this course as they have fully demonstrated compliance with the proficiency standards as set forth in STCW - Regulation VI/6 of the 2010 Manila Amendments”, stated Carl Drumgoole, Dir. of Training Center and Course Approval for LISCR. “The Liberian Registry recognizes the logistical and feasibility challenges maritime companies face in meeting the training requirements in a timely fashion. Accordingly, we have taken a proactive approach by extending training certification beyond just the classroom venue.”

“We are excited to be expanding the scope of our CBT course offerings”, stated IMSN Training Director, Martin White. “We launched our first CBT course for Anti-PiracyDefense training back in 2011, and we plan to also offer the Security Awareness Training for all Seafarers course (IMO Model Course 3.27) sometime in early August.”

Military Sealift Command (MSC) has certified IMSN as a provider of the MSC Small Arms course. IMSN will be immediately offering this course at locations in Pennsylvania, Maine and Louisiana. Additional training locations in California and Florida will be available in the 1st Quarter of 2013.

IMSN is pleased to announce they will be adding firearms training to their course offerings in the 4th Quarter, 2012. Currently in the final stages of certification, IMSN plans to offer 4 specific firearms training courses: Military Sealift Command - Small Arms Training NRA certified rifle and pistol courses NRA Law Enforcement These firearms training courses will initially be offered in Pennsylvania, Maine, and Florida. Other locations in Virginia and California are being planned for the 1st Quarter 2013. “Many of our maritime security training students regularly inquire about firearms training,” Timothy Nease, CEO said. “And with our team’s background in military and law enforcement, it is a natural fit for us.” Specific course offering dates will be released in October.
IMSN is happy to be in the final stages of a formal partnership with Nigerian engineering and services company, DeltaLift Resources Nigeria Ltd.
